Find your shaving solution.

Yes. We're finally talking all things head-shaving. Sure, the Single Edge was designed for an incredibly close and comfortable face shave, but does it work on heads? The short answer: yes, but with the right technique!

Before we jump into all things head shaving, we must offer a simple caveat. The Single Edge razor has a slight learning curve associated with it and was initially designed for the unique contours of faces and necks.

If you were to ask us which razor to use for your head, we would 100% recommend the SE, since it includes our NickStop™  technology to help with the unique curves and bumps in your noggin. And before attempting your first head shave, we recommend getting comfortable with your technique using the razor on your face.

The Tools

• High-quality shaving cream: A thick, foamy cream with a shea butter base like our Ultra Lather Shaving Cream is recommended to aid in protecting and moisturizing the scalp.
• Shave brush: Using a shave brush will whip up a thick, protective lather, while simultaneously prepping your hair for optimal shaving conditions. Need suggestions? Here's our shameless plug for the Silvertip Synthetic Brush.
• Bowl: Using a shave bowl or cup allows you to store that rich lather for the duration of your shave. Our Marble Shaving Bowl will keep your lather warm for your first AND second passes.
• The SE
• Post-shave product of your choice: Your aftershave should heal and restore balance to your scalp. Ours is crafted with an aloe vera base instead of alcohol, locking in moisture.

The Preparation

Start with a nice, warm shower. The steam and warm temperature will soften your hair and open up pores, preparing your skin. If you don't have time for a shower, use a damp, warm towel instead. Massage the scalp thoroughly with your fingertips, making sure to stimulate your scalp throughout the process.

Next, you'll want to map the direction of your hair growth. This step is especially important when shaving your head because we recommend only shaving with the grain. Shaving against the grain will increase the possibility of irritation and nicks on your cabeza. ¡No es bueno!

The Lather

Fill your shave bowl or mug with hot water and let it sit for a few minutes so the bowl can heat up. Once it is warm, dump out the water. Our Marble Shave Bowl is designed to retain heat three times longer than ceramic bowls. Next, take a finger scoop of shave cream and rub it into the bottom of the bowl. With your brush, whip the cream into a thick lather. If you're having trouble building a thick, foamy lather, just add more water until it reaches your preferred consistency.

To apply, use circular motions with your shave brush to cover your entire head in a cushiony lather. Using a shave brush to apply cream will gently lift hairs in preparation for your shave.

The Shave

Grab your trusty SE. In front of a mirror, start with light, short strokes on the easier, more visible spots of your head. Remember - absolutely NO pressure! Let the weight of the razor do the work and gently "sweep away" your hair. Make sure you’re shaving with the grain to avoid irritation.

Once you have completed the top and sides of your scalp, it’s time to move to the back of your head/neck area. These areas are especially sensitive and since they’re in your blind spot, do everything you can to cheat. Use extra mirrors or tag in a friend, no one here is judging! Most people’s hair growth makes it challenging to shave with the grain in these areas, so do anything you can to make it more accessible.

Once you've completed your first pass, you will want to examine your head to see if any areas were missed. If you find any patches, it’s time to take the Single Edge for round two. But wait! Don’t just start stroking with your razor no matter how minor the spots seem. You want to avoid the blade touching your skin as much as possible to reduce the chance of irritation and razor bumps. Re-lather! Re-lather! Re-lather!

The Finish

Finally, the easy part. Since all the heavy lifting was taken care of during your preparation, your last step is to moisturize your scalp. Rinse your head with cold water to clean off any excess shave cream and hair. This will also tighten your pores in the process. Dry off your head with a clean towel, paying careful attention not to rub.

The short answer is: yes.

The longer answer: You can always travel with it in your checked luggage, but if you’re wanting to carry it onto a plane, you’ll need to do it without the blade installed.

With the SE, you can easily uninstall the blade by completely unscrewing the screw and removing the blade manually. To remove the blade from the Pro, you’ll need to use a small tool to push the blade carefully through and out of the razor.

Will the SE and Pro fit in our current Travel Case?

Yes - the PRO is a tight fit, but it still works. No wiggle room. Just position it with the blade facing up. That being said, you will need to uninstall your Grip Sleeve in order for it to slide into the travel case. You can easily store a pack of blades and grip sleeve on either side of the razor when traveling.

Why opt for a single blade razor over the multi-blade razors that everyone seems to use?

Well.. single blade razors cut hair where they're actually supposed to be cut - at the surface of the skin. This allows hair to grow back naturally, while dramatically reducing irritation, redness, nicks, and ingrown hairs.

In contrast, multi-blade razors cut hair below the surface. The first blade cuts the hair, but the second, third, and fourth blades cut hair micrometers below the surface of the skin. All razors create microscopic cuts in the skin, but the 3, 4, or 5 blades on multi-blade razors amplify this problem. It causes irritation and redness, especially for people who suffer from sensitive skin.

When the hair does start to grow back, since it was cut below the surface of the skin, it has to fight through tiny layers of skin. This is what causes ingrown hairs.

The mass amounts of tiny cuts created by multi-blades also cause your skin to age prematurely. The single blade produces far less micro-cuts, allowing the skin to heal quicker and not age before its time.

How could one blade ever compare to five?

How Multiple-Blade Razors Work

The whole premise behind adding multiple blades to a razor was to lift and cut the hair beneath the surface of your skin. The first blade lifts the hair and the subsequent blades cut below the surface of the skin, giving you a close shave.

The issue? When you shave below the surface of the skin, you leave your skin vulnerable to ingrown hairs. And multiple sharp edges create more friction with your face. And friction leads to razor burn and irritation.

How A Single Blade Razor Works

On the other side of the spectrum, a single blade razor will shave at the surface of our skin, giving you an extremely close shave without the risk of ingrown hairs and irritation. With just one blade, there's less friction, so less irritation and razor burn.

So, why would companies continue to add blades and market it as a better shave?

One of the most frequent questions we receive about the Single Edge is "how does it shave compared to my ___?" Whether you are a seasoned wetshaving veteran or have used convenience store plastic razors, the Single Edge is for everyone. Today, we compare it to a traditional DE razor.

When it comes to traditional wetshaving, most enthusiasts think of the DE razor (short for double edge) as the standard. A DE razor is exactly how it sounds: it has two cutting edges for shaving on both sides of the razor. While it is an excellent tool for wetshaving once the technique is mastered, there are many advantages for using a Single Edge razor instead.

What makes the Single Edge different?

There are a few main differences between the Single Edge and a DE razor: the blades, weight, the customization, and the mechanics. Some are more obvious while others are what provide that comfortable, close shave we're all looking for.

THE BLADES

First, the Single Edge has only one cutting edge rather than the two of the DE. I know what you're thinking, "Duh." Moving right along.

But, let’s talk a little more about the blades. Double edge safety razor blades are thin and flimsy. This creates what’s called “blade chatter” when the blade moves across the skin. Because the blade is thinner, it is more likely to catch on thicker hair and then make a quick jump forward as it bends back into place. Imagine the blade skipping across your skin. The chances of the blade nicking and cutting your skin only increases with a thinner blade.

Our blades are twice as thick as double edge blades. They’re just as sharp, if not sharper than a double edge blade, and sit securely in the razor. Blade chatter is almost nonexistent with the Single Edge. Our blades just glide across your skin and sweep away the hair as you shave.

THE ANGLE

Finding the proper angle of the blade in DE razors is nowhere near as intuitive as our Single Edge. Most DE razors require you to hold the head of the razor against your skin at a 30-degree angle, making for an awkward and difficult angle to work around your jawline and your neck.

Our Single Edge is designed with the proper blade angle built into it's actual design. Just lay the Supply logo on the head of your razor flat on your skin and go. You may need to tilt back towards you, about 10-15 degrees, if your razor is not sweeping the hair and shaving cream away without any residue left behind.

THE WEIGHT

The weight of the Single Edge is one of the most noticeable differences you will see when you first pick it up - and that was intentional. The weight is there to remind you that you never have to press down during your shave. Unlike other razors, all you need to do is allow the weight of the razor to sweep away the hair with light, short strokes. It'll do all the work, minimizing friction with your skin!

Do I need to use shaving cream with the SE?

Why choose a single blade?

Precision is the key to cleaning up overgrown side burns, and the Single Edge will make it much easier to line up accurately compared to cartridge counterparts. Don’t believe me? Let’s look at this logically.

A multi blade razor is exactly what it sounds like, a razor with two to five blades. Try shaving a straight line with this many blades while your razor is perpendicular, and it get's tricky. During your shave, you don’t know where the multiple blades are shaving, which blades are actively shaving hairs while the others are touching bare skin, or how much of your hair is being removed. And let’s be honest, everyone has run into the issue of skin irritation from cartridge razors.

Instead, the Single Edge is a total game changer. With one blade, you only have to keep track of, line up, and shave with a single blade installed in your razor. This allows you to know exactly what your blade is doing during the shave and in turn, it minimizes the possibility of painful shave mistakes.

The Prep Work

Just like you would with any other shave, you want to start with a warm shower or damp towel to soften up the hair around your side burns and open up the pores on your face. This allows your growth to be in prime cutting position and will also minimize the amount of work your razor has to perform.

Then, take your Ultra Lather Shaving Cream (or other quality shave cream) and whip up a nice, thick protective lather. Apply it to the areas you are wanting to trim and line up.

Trimming Your Side Burns

Grab your trusty Single Edge and place the logo on your razor to find the proper angle. Remember, you should NEVER have to use pressure during your shave. It should feel like you are literally sweeping the hairs away with the weight of the razor.

First, shave any facial hair or neck hair you’re wanting to clean up. As you get closer to your side burns, take slower, shorter strokes to create an even line up.

The Follow Up

Once everything is lined up and looking clean, rinse your face with cold water to calm your skin. Grab a nice, clean towel and pat your face nice and dry. Do you get weird bumps on your neck after shaving? You know the ones - itchy, sometimes painful, irritating bumps that make shaving and going out in public a bit awkward.

You may know them as razor bumps when in fact they're more than likely ingrown hairs - and you're making them worse without even knowing it.

What are ingrown hairs?

They’re hairs that have grown into your skin. People with curly or coarse hair tend to have it worse than others since their hair curls back towards the skin. Even something as simple as clogged hair follicles can cause hair to grow back into the skin, causing ingrown hairs.

And, as you well know, shaving doesn’t always help the situation.

If you’re struggling with this, the good news is you can prevent it from happening. There’s a way to shave without getting ingrown hairs, and it only takes a few simple steps.

So without further ado, here are 5 simple ways to prevent those nasty ingrown hairs from rearing their ugly heads.

1. Prep Your Neck Properly.

The first step is knowing how to prepare your neck and when the best time to shave is.

Your neck is prime for shaving when it's clean and whiskers are soft, and the shower is perfect for achieving both. Plus any dead skin that is washed away will help prevent your hair follicles from clogging - which causes ingrown hairs.

So shave right when you get out of the shower to nip that issue in the bud. If you can't shave immediately after you take a shower, soak your face with a hot, wet towel for a minute or two.

2. Use the Right Products.

Still using shaving foam or gel from an aerosol can? Stop. Shaving gels and creams have chemicals and numbing agents that damage your skin and cause irritation. And nobody has time for that.

Instead, use a quality shaving cream with all natural ingredients to help build a thick, protective lather. This will provide a good cushion for your shave, while also lifting the whiskers away from your skin for a much closer shave. And finally, after shaving use a non-alcoholic post shave to soothe and restore moisture to your face.

3. Don’t Sabotage Your Face.

If you’re pressing the razor against your neck at all while you shave, you’re doing too much. You might think you’re achieving a closer shave, but in reality, you’re only creating an uneven surface to shave on, which won’t properly cut the hairs.

Think of it like you're sweeping the hair off your neck - not scraping it off. Your job is to pull the razor along and guide it. If you’re having to push down, it’s probably time you retire that blade.

4. Map Your Beard (even on your neck)

If you have sensitive skin, it's best to only shave with the grain. Shaving against the grain tugs and pulls hairs in the opposite direction (which, as we've already learned, is one way ingrown hairs occur). But how do you know if you’re going with the grain at all times?

Hairs can grow in all directions in different parts of your neck. When you map your grain, you ensure you’re not accidentally going against the grain and causing more ingrown hair problems.

To map your grain, let your beard grow for a few days, and then take a picture of it. You’ll probably want to take a couple from different angles, including one pointing up at the middle of your neck and chin. You can then use these pictures as a map of your grain going forward.

5. Rinse Your Blade.

Every time you take a stroke while shaving, your blade accumulates shaving cream, hair, and skin. This build-up prevents your blade from getting that clean close shave every time and can also cause skin irritation.

Fix this by simply rinsing your blade thoroughly after every stroke, and you’ll be one step closer to a clean, ingrown-hair-free face and neck.

Whether you shave with cheap disposables, modern multi-blades, or traditional safety razors, the Single Edge is a serious upgrade to your morning shave and can help reduce irritation. Here's why:

How To Hold Your Single Edge

This isn't a plastic, throw-away razor.

The Single Edge is made from solid metal, giving it heft, weight, and a different feel from any other razor you've held.

A heavy razor? It's a good thing because the razor does all the work. You don't.

Part of the journey to epic shaves is learning how to hold it throughout the duration of your shave.

Here's our step-by-step guide for your next great shave.

Step #1: Dry Hands

Starting out with dry hands will allow you to get a good grip as you prepare to mow down hair growth. Another customer hack? Adding a small amount of alum to the hands improves the grip-ability of your razor during the shave.

Step #2: Three Finger Grip

Using your dominant hand, hold the middle of your handle between your thumb and your middle finger. Then, place your index finger on the back of the razor to balance and guide short, light strokes. Be sure to let the weight of the fully metal razor do all the work. No need to hulk smash the razor to get a closer shave.

Step #3: Keep It Light

Cradling the razor with the rest of your fingers, take light strokes moving with the grain of your beard growth. You should be using the same amount of pressure that you would use if you were shaving a balloon.

Keep it light and easy.

Step #4: The Upside Down

Step #1: Load The “Key” Into Your Razor

Our blade pack has a key that fits into the right side of the razor head. Make sure you push the key all the way into the opening on the razor head until it stops.

Step #2: Pull The Slide Back

Find the slide on top of the injector pack, and pull it back, away from the razor. This action will pick up the new blade in the pack that’s ready to be installed.

Step #3: Pay Attention While Pushing The Blade In

Push the slide towards the razor, loading a new blade into the razor and ejecting the old. The blade should catch the old blade and push it out.

🚨 VERY IMPORTANT TIP: The blade should load straight into the razor. If it is loose, loading at an angle, on top of the existing blade, or most importantly, dragging on the blade stop, you will have a damaged blade. (See image above)

Damaged blade = Terrible, painful shave

Step #4: Remove The Blade Pack

After your blade is successfully loaded, pull the key out of the razor and watch the tension in the razor set the blade in shaving position.

There's a neat little opening on the back of our blade packs. Just slide your old blade into the back of the pack while you're using the rest of your blades. Then, once you’re finished with all 8 blades in your pack, toss the whole thing in the recycling bin.

While loading, watch the cutting edge of the blade carefully to make sure it doesn’t drag on the blade stop. This is the most important tip of the entire bunch.

If you notice any irritation, uneven shaves, or nicks, 9 times out of 10 it has to do with the blade inside your razor. Load a new blade carefully before shaving again.

What you do to prepare your skin for the shave is essential for the best shave possible.

Step #1: Start with warm water.

Warm water is your best friend during a shave. It's best to take a warm shower, wash your face or even just use a warm, damp towel to soften the hairs you're about to shave.

Step #2: Grab your gear.

Take a finger scoop of your shaving cream and rub it into the bottom of your bowl, container, or the palm of your hand. Run your shaving brush under warm water and push into cream. Then, begin to whip up your lather. It may take a little muscle, so don't be shy. Whip it good!

Step #3: Adjust lather consistency.

Small additions can change the overall texture of your lather. Want a thicker lather? Add a small amount of shave cream. Cream not whipping? Add a little more water and use vigorous, circular motions to activate cream.

Don't forget to get the thick lather stuck inside the brush. Starting at the base of the bristle knot, squeeze upward to retrieve a nice amount of lather to add to skin.

Step #4: Take your time.

Shaving often feels like a chore - but it doesn't have to. Think of it like a massage: the warm water, the scents, exfoliation, and smooth glide of the razor can be pretty relaxing.

Apply lather for your first pass and enjoy it. If you need a second pass, we recommend relathering areas before taking a second run.

Luckily, we’ve made it easy for you to find the proper angle to hold your razor. Just place the Supply logo (that’s on the head of the razor) flat on your skin. That’s it.

You’ll know you have the correct angle if the shaving cream is complete swept away - along with your hairs. If you have the SE and are seeing “tread marks” left in the cream, you don’t have the right angle. Adjust until you find it, and once you do, you’ll know it!

The small knob on the Supply SE is a screw that holds the razor together. It includes a “captive” spring that puts enough tension on the setting and handle to hold them together, while ensuring that the jaws also open up wide enough to accept a new blade.

ℹ️ The only reason you’ll ever want to adjust this screw is to take apart the razor for cleaning.

Otherwise, leave it finger-tight and do not adjust it during shaving. Loosening it will in turn lead to a loose blade within your razor. And if this happens, it may result in the blade slipping out of the razor - which would be extremely dangerous.

Our SE razors are made from die-cast zinc alloy, coated with aerospace-grade PVD chrome. This finish allows us the ability to offer multiple colors for your Single Edge razor.

What does PVD mean?

Not being satisfied with the status quo, we specified Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) as our coating process for all of our razors. Most safety razors use a traditional electroplating process that can chip, fade, and peel over time. We use an entirely different process.

PVD is an extremely durable coating that is typically used in Aerospace and Automotive applications. I can’t tell you how proud I am of this. As far as I’m aware, we are the only razor manufacturer that uses this process to coat zinc-alloy razors.

Nicks and cuts are caused by skin getting trapped underneath the blades. Our patent-pending Nickstop™ Technology is here to make that a thing of the past. Driven by 16 precision fins perfectly placed along the safety bar, only hair reaches the samurai sword sharp blade.

The SE fins guide the hair to the blade. They stop your skin from getting caught under the blade and allow hair to pass through for a clean, precision-close shave. They allow you to safely shave anywhere on your body.

And they speed up the process of body shaving because the fins protect the skin while still giving a close shave.

The SE is designed to be easy to rinse and clog-free. Water should easily pass through it, so that hair and cream easily clear out between each pass.

With long periods of use, hair and shaving cream residue sometimes can build up, leading to the need for a SE deep clean.

Here’s our simple guide to get started:

Start with Water

The first step is to leave your SE under hot running water. This will wash off any hairs that are hanging onto the razor handle and the blade. It should also wash away any shaving cream residue.

After you rinse it out, shake out any excess water remaining.

Break Out the Sponge

Sometimes removing shaving cream residue requires more than just hot water. It’s safe to use dish soap and a soft brush or sponge to scrub your razor. It won’t damage the finish and will effectively remove any residue. Don’t be shy - scrub away.

Just be sure to thoroughly rinse and dry your SE when you’re finished washing and scrubbing it.

Time to Sterilize

Multi-blade razors are known for growing bacteria between shaves since they don’t rinse out well. Skin, cream, and hair lives between the blades and grows all kinds of undesirable germs. But we digress.

The SE does not have that problem, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good to sterilize it on a semi-regular basis. To start, give your SE a short dip in rubbing alcohol. This will kill germs and remove any water build up in the tighter nooks of the razor. Follow up with Barbicide or any other barber grade cleaner to fully sterilize it.

You don’t need to do this every time you want to clean your SE, but it’s a good habit to get into for a solid shaving ritual.

Going Deeper

If you’re ready to take your cleaning routine a step further, you’re going to need to remove the SE setting from the razor. This will get any hair or cream that’s gotten stuck behind the setting or the blade.

All you have to do is loosen the screw completely from the handle. Remember that unscrewing the setting from the body will cause the blade to fall out. So, make sure you’re ready to change your blade when you want to clean your SE this way. Also, there should always be a small spring loaded around the screw. Be careful not to lose this when loosening.

After removing the setting, follow the steps above. Rinse it out with hot water. Scrub it with dish soap with a sponge or soft brush. Dip it in rubbing alcohol and Barbicide.

Then, put your setting back on and load a new blade.

Don’t Leave it Lying Down

Our Razor Stand is one of the best ways to keep your razor clean and dry between each shave. After you rinse it out, shake out the water and place it in the stand. Leaving your SE in the Stand between shaves will keep your blades from rusting, making them last longer.

The Stand will also make your SE a statement piece next to your sink.

One of the major differences between the Single Edge SE and the Pro is the number of shave settings that comes with the razor. The Single Edge SE ships with one single shave setting that should give anyone a close comfortable shave without risk of ingrown hairs or irritation. The Pro includes a brand new shave dial that helps the user effortlessly dial up their shave from sensitive setting 1 to the most aggressive setting 6.

Which brings us to a very common question we get from customers: what is the purpose of the screw on the Single Edge SE model? I’m glad you asked. The SE can be completely disassembled into 3 separates parts: the razor handle, the screw, and the SE shave setting. If you loosen and completely remove the screw, you will notice a spring loaded around the base of the screw. This spring is what creates the tension and allows the razor to accept and eject the razor blade during the injection process. A plus of this design is also that you can easily deep clean all parts of the SE razor by completely disassembling it. See more here:

Spring-Loaded Screw

The spring-loaded screw is one of three parts that make up the SE razor. It is integral to the blade loading process by allowing the injection of a new blade and creating the tension between the setting and the razor handle to keep it in place throughout your shave.

When you open up your SE razor for the first time, you’ll notice a keyhole on the right side of the razor head when the razor blade is facing you. This hole is where you will insert the QuickLoad™ cartridge to insert your first blade and eject the red “dummy” blade that comes preinstalled in the razor.

You’ll notice that when you insert your QuickLoad™ cartridge, there will be a small amount of space created between the shave bar and razor handle in order to receive and eject the blade. Once you remove the QuickLoad™ cartridge from the keyhole, you’ll notice the tension that snaps the blade into shaving mode.

So, you just unboxed the Pro, or you’re anxiously anticipating it’s arrival. Whether it’s already in your hands or on it's way, we want to make sure you get the best shave from the very first pass.

Step One: Load a Blade

Your Pro comes with a red, dummy blade to help you correctly load your first blade. Grab the Black Label blade pack that was packed underneath the tray in your razor box.

To load a new blade, insert the key into the slot on the right side of the head of your razor. Pull back on the slide to pick up a blade. Push it forward and ping. A new blade is loaded, and your Pro is ready to go.

Also, your Pro may feel slightly tight when inserting your blade pack for the first time. Like breaking in your favorite leather, it will get much easier each time.

Step Two: Prep Your Face

If possible, we recommend shaving after a hot shower. The heat and moisture will help lift the hairs from your face, making it easier for our extra-sharp blade to sweep the hair away as it glides across your skin.

If you don’t have time for a shower, quickly rinse your face with hot water or warm, steamy wash cloth. It will have a similar effect.

Step Three: Lather Up

To get the best results from your Pro, always use a thick cushion of lather to protect your skin. We also recommend using a shave brush to help whip up the lather and prep your beard during the application.

Step Four: Choose Your Setting

This is what sets the Pro apart from every other safety razor on the market: your ability to choose between 6 main settings and 30 micro-settings. Our shave dial lets you move from one setting to the next with just a move of your thumb.

How does the Shave Dial work?

Founder note: the difference between settings is hundredths of a millimeter. While it might not seem like the bar is moving, the minute movement has an exponential impact on the closeness of your shave.

Meet unrivaled customization at the tip of your fingertips. Changing the closeness of your shave is as simple as a quick flick of the thumb. Whether you’ve used the Single Edge for years, you’re a wetshaving veteran, or interested in taking your shave to the next level, the shave dial on our Pro is sure to make every shave legendary.

When we say even more customizable, we mean it. There’s only .7mm between the 1 setting and 6 settings. That means there are only hundredths of a millimeter between each micro-setting. To the naked eye, it may not seem like there is much movement happening when you switch a setting. But, believe us, a hundredth of a mm difference will change the precision of your shave.

Speaking of shave, here’s a quick guide on how to pick the perfect setting for you:

For Current 2.0 Users:

If you’re coming from the previous 2.0 version of the Single Edge, the 1-6 settings are designed like the 1-3 setting system. The difference with the Pro model is that there are even more customizable options with 30 micro-settings between 1 and 6. You can adjust to any of them without having to worry about the dial moving.

PRO Setting Breakdown:

If you like the 1-dot Sensitive, use the 1 on PRO

If you like the 2-dot you’ll like the 3 on the PRO

If you like the 3-dot you’ll like 4,5 and 6 on the PRO

For First-Time Single Edge Users:

The best place to start is on the 1 setting. It will be the mildest shave setting of all, but will be the perfect starting ground for learning the technique and unique weight of your new Pro.

Once you’ve taken a pass with the 1 setting, feel free to dial it up for a closer shave, remembering the 6 setting will be the most aggressive of all with the least forgiveness if you happen to have bad technique.

Insider Tip: we’ve found most customers enjoy the 3-4 setting range for the shave.

If you bought the Supply Pro because you wanted more customization, you made the right choice. But choosing the right setting for you is a key step in getting the best shave.

Here’s how you can dial in your Pro shave from the first pass.

The Dial

The Dial on the Pro moves the safety bar up and down, increasing or decreasing the blade exposure. Blade exposure is the space between the safety bar and the blade.

The more exposed the blade is, the more aggressive the shave will be. More blade exposure means the blade comes in closer contact with your skin, allowing more hair to reach the blade at one time. Less blade exposure means the blade doesn’t make as much contact with your skin, leading to a milder shave.

The numbers on the dial represent blade exposure. 1 is the least amount of blade exposure or mildest shave, while the 6 setting is the most exposure and aggressive setting.

ℹ️ Fun Fact: There is only .7mm of space between the 1 setting and 6 setting. This means changing from the 1 setting to the 2 setting will only move the blade .11mm and so on for each setting up the dial. This is a tiny amount of adjustment that makes a huge amount of difference in the feel and closeness of your shave.

How do you know which setting to use?

The settings are marked 1-6.

• 1 is the most mild setting.

• 6 is the most aggressive.

There are 6 total main settings and 28 micro-settings in between 1 and 6.

Our general recommendation is to start with the 1 setting, especially if you have sensitive skin or it’s your first time with a safety razor. It’s the most forgiving, but it will still give you a close shave. If it’s too mild for you, you can always move up.

If the 1 setting doesn’t shave as close as you want bump up to the 2 or 3 setting and keep adjusting from there. The best part is you can use multiple settings while you shave. The milder settings (1-2) are great for more sensitive or hard-to-navigate areas (under the nose, the jawline, etc.). The more aggressive settings (4-6) will give you a smooth shave on the first pass on places like your cheeks and down your neck.

Plus, adjusting your setting is as easy as moving your thumb up and down. So, switching mid-shave is no problem.

If you're coming from the Single Edge 2.0:

The range of adjustment on the Pro is designed to roughly mimic the range of adjustment on the 2.0. The difference is, it gets a bit more mild on the low end and a bit more aggressive on the high end.

The 1 setting is milder than the “mild” setting of the 2.0.

The 6 setting is more aggressive than the “aggressive” setting of the 2.0.

If you liked the 1-dot sensitive setting, use the 1 on our PRO. For our 2-dot comfortable setting, you’ll find the 3 comparable. And for our ultra close 3-dot setting, you'll be able to dial in the aggressiveness between our 4 and 6 settings on the Pro.

Many of our shavers who have switched from the 2.0 to the Pro are saying that it gives a much closer shave.

If you’ve used your Pro for a few shaves, it might be time for a deep clean. Luckily, we design the base plate on your Pro to be removable, allowing you clean out any shaving cream or stray hairs stuck back there.

Here’s a quick guide to clean it up in four easy steps.

1. Remove the Cover

Find the key on your QuickLoad™ Cartridge, which is the part of the blade pack that is inserted into the head of the razor when loading a new blade.

Place the tip of the key underneath the bottom of the cover, and use it as a lever to pop the cover off. You won’t need to use too much force. It should come right off.

2. Rinse and Brush

Once you’ve removed the cover, rinse out the inside of the razor with a small amount of water. Then, grab a toothbrush you never plan on using in your mouth and start scrubbing.

You shouldn’t need to scrub vigorously if you clean out your razor on a consistent basis. There may be some shaving cream residue and some hair from previous shaves. When you’re finished scrubbing, give the razor a rinse again.

3. Dry it Off

Use a towel to dry off any excess water. If you want to get really detailed, you can use a Q-Tip to soak up any extra drops of water after you use the towel.

4. Put the Cover Back On

Last, the cover should just snap back into place. This is the easiest step, but if we don’t keep it on the list, someone will leave the cover off. That “someone” is obviously not you. But just to be safe, put the cover back on.

Blade Loading Keyhole

When you open up your Pro razor for the first time, you’ll notice a keyhole on the right side of the razor head when the razor blade is facing you. This hole is where you will insert the QuickLoad™ cartridge to insert your first blade and eject the red “dummy” blade that comes preinstalled in the razor.

You’ll notice that when you insert your QuickLoad™ cartridge, there will be a small amount of space created between the shave bar and razor handle in order to receive and eject the blade. Once you remove the QuickLoad™ cartridge from the keyhole, you’ll notice the tension that snaps the blade into shaving mode.

How To Install A Blade

Shave Setting Bar

The shave setting bar is what controls the amount of blade exposure that comes in contact with your skin during your shave. In turn, this controls the closeness of the shave you’ll receive from you Single Edge Pro.

When the shave dial is on the 1 setting, you will have the least amount of blade exposure, which is best for customers struggling with sensitive skin. When the shave dial is on the 6 setting, you will have the maximum amount of blade exposure, the closest shave possible, and the least forgiving setting of the Pro. We recommend starting with the 3 setting and dialing up and down from there.

Dial Cover

This is the plate that surrounds the shave dial. It is the only removable piece of the Pro razor, and it’s purpose is to protect and cover the intricate mechanisms inside the Pro razor. If you’d like to deep clean your Pro razor, you will want to remove the dial cover from the razor handle. To do that, you can use the key on your QuickLoad™ cartridge to pop the cover off by insert it into the drain hole.

Drain Hole

The drain hole serves two purposes for the Pro razor. It allows soapy water and hair to drain from inside of the razor and out - reducing any clogging within the razor. It also allows you to remove your Dial Cover for deep cleaning inside the razor.

Shave Dial

The shave dial will control what setting your Pro razor is shaving your hair. It has 6 primary shave settings with 30 micro-settings in between to help you find your perfect and custom shave. Easily dial your shave up and down throughout your shave, depending on the closeness you desire for different skin regions.

Razor Handle

The razor handle is the part of the razor that you hold onto throughout your shave and houses all the part of your amazing new razor.

If you're experiencing a patchy or uneven shave with your Supply razor, I have good news for you: this is not how your razor is supposed to work.

Thankfully, this is one of the easiest problems to fix. Here’s some quick tips:

Fix #1: Replace your dull or damaged blade.

This is almost always the issue. A blade’s cutting edge can be damaged during the blade loading process if it drags along the blade stop. You’ll know if your blade is tugging your skin or giving you the patchy, terrible shave.

To fix it, simply insert a new blade. While you do, be certain that the blade edge is not dragging along the blade stop while it goes in.

Trust me when I say that almost 99% of the time this is the cause of your problem.

Fix #2: Adjust your angle.

We made it super easy and simple to find the right angle with your razor. Just place the logo on the head of your razor flat on your skin, then begin sweeping the hair away. Remember, no pressure.

Tip #3: Try a fresh blade.

If the above didn’t work, it’s time to load a new blade. There’s a chance your blade may have dulled or damaged when loading.

When loading your blade, watch the cutting edge making sure it loads straight into the razor, above the blade stop, instead of dragging on the blade stop.

This definitely shouldn’t be happening. But if it is, there’s a few tips we can take to eliminate it. You've got this. 💪

Tip #1 Change out your blade.

🛑 Almost 99% of the time, the issue is a damaged or dull blade in your razor caused by the blade not loading straight into the razor, but dragging on the blade stop.

A damaged blade will irritate, burn, and nick up your skin throughout your shave. To fix it, simply load a new blade into your razor. While you’re loading, watch closely that the blade edge is not dragging along the blade stop while it goes in. Instead, the blade should stay above the blade stop during the loading process.

Tip #5 For Pro users, bump down a setting.

Changing to a milder setting may help with irritation if your current setting is too aggressive for your skin.

If this is your first time using a safety razor, we recommend starting with the 1 setting and dialing up from there. The 1 is our most sensitive - and least aggressive - setting, allowing the least amount of hair to reach the blade. You’ll probably need more than one pass to get a close shave, but it’ll be the most forgiving setting while you adjust your technique.

If you’re dealing with any nicks or cuts, there’s definitely something wrong. Here’s how to help:

#1 Your blade may be dull or damaged.

If while you’re shaving you feel the blade tugging your skin or giving an uneven shave plus your nicks, the probable cause is a dull or damaged blade.

🛑 IMPORTANT: A blade will damage during the loading process if the cutting edge drags on the blade stop, it’s loose, loads at an angle, or loads on top of another blade.

The good news is it’s easy to fix. Carefully reload a new blade, watching the cutting edge the whole time. It should stay above the blade stop during the loading process. As soon as you pull your QuickLoad™  blade pack out of the razor, the tension will gently push the blade into the shaving position, resting on the blade stops.

🚨 A Note for Pro Users: Using a higher setting on your Pro will give you a closer shave but also has a higher risk of nicks and cuts due to poor technique. If you can’t seem to get a nick-free cut from your Pro, dial down your setting.

On the day your Single Edge SE or Pro arrives on your doorstep, there has never been more excitement for a good shave. We’ve had customers reach out with concern when they see a red blade installed in their razor, and we’re here to set the record straight.

The red blade is NOT used for shaving.

Why is there a red blade installed in my razor?

Internally (and in our instructions) we refer to this red blade as a “dummy” blade, meaning it’s a placeholder and has zero sharpness to it. If you tried to shave with it, you’d probably think you’ve been duped into purchasing a really nice-looking toy razor.

The reason it’s there is to assist customers with their first blade loading. It should be very easy to do, but it is much easier to load a razor that already has a blade in place than a “blank” razor. It also minimizes the likelihood of the razor blade getting damaged during the installation process.

I just got my razor and see the red blade. What do I do first?

What exactly is a beard roller? It's our high-performing derma-roller designed to stimulate your skin to encourage new beard growth. Titanium micro-needles housed on an aluminum handle provide a comfortable, anti-microbial rolling experience.

So, how to use it? It's easy.

Choose Your Frequency

For best results, choose two days during the week you'll be using the roller, ensuring there's at least one day of rest in between them. A rest day is necessary to allow your skin to process the benefits acquired through beard rolling.

1. Cleanse Your Beard.

To manually insert a new blade, unscrew and take your razor apart. Any time you take apart your razor, it never hurts to take a look at the pieces, washing or wiping away any shaving cream residue or hair that may be hanging around.

Now, you want to put the razor pieces aside and eject a blade from the pack into your hand or the counter. Be careful when doing so! Our blades are very sharp. Once you have the loose blade, you want to place it in the setting of your choice. Make sure the cutting side is facing out, flush against the blade stops -- as shown below.

Then, screw in the setting while holding the blade in place with your thumb and index finger on either side of the setting, as shown in the picture above. Make sure your setting sort of "locks in" before screwing the razor back together. If your setting is not placed and fitted into the handle correctly, you could damage your Single Edge.

Below is a video example of a blade being placed under the head of the razor instead of on the setting as explained above. Either way will work!

All in all, anytime you take your razor apart, you will have to manually insert a blade.

What's so great about them?

Glad you asked. Injector blades are twice as thick as blades used in both multi-blade cartridge razors and double edge safety razors. Why does this matter? It means they flex less, cut cleaner, and last longer. No flex means no blade chatter, which is a common issue with our competitor's razors, and the reason behind irritation, nicks, and cuts.

While we have some customers who can get up to 20 shaves from each blade, our average customer usually gets between 8-10 shaves before needing a new one.

You'll know it's time to change your blade when you're shaves aren't as smooth. Your blade may begin to tug skin or leave patches of hair behind. This is a sign that your blade is beginning to dull in places.

At this point, all you have to do is grab your trusty blade pack and quickly swap out a new blade. Since our blade pack ships with 8 blades inside the cartridge, one pack typically lasts up to three months of shaving!

STEP ONE: Feel Good Face Wash

The name isn't an overstatement. This face wash is designed to make you feel good. Just squeeze a dime size amount in your palm and work into a mild lather, either on your face or in your palm before applying. Since our formula is aloe-based, it require less product than you may think. The addition of a little water will activate the lather. Insider tip: start with a dime size, but feel free to go less in amount if you feel you don't need as much.

After applying lather to face, rinse with warm water to open up pores. We recommend using morning and night for best results - and especially before shaving.

STEP TWO: Multi-Purpose Moisturizer

After your face has been cleansed, gently massage a dime sized amount of moisturizer into your skin. Avoid coming in contact with your eye. A little goes a long way, and you may even find yourself only needing a pea size amount. It all depends on your skin's natural oils and skin type. We recommend using morning and night.

If shaving, wait to apply your moisturizer until after applying your Healing Post Shave. Since our post shave has a witch hazel and aloe foundation, it acts as a toner to correct and balance out the pH of your skin. After toning, using a solid moisturizer locks in hydration and protects from harsh environmental damage to skin.

STEP THREE: Age Defense Eye Cream

The one product most don't know they need. After moisturizing, it's time to brighten dark circles, combat puffiness, and renew aging skin cells - all with your trusty, vitamin-packed eye cream.

Using your fingertip, scoop out a small amount. Trust me - a little goes a long way. Apply eye cream morning and night under and around the outside of your eye, rubbing in fully. Make sure the product doesn't come in contact with your eye.

Let's get a grip.

Soap and water are your friend when installing the grip sleeve. Squirt a little soap into the sleeve and rub it underneath water to cover the inside.

Then, easily push the sleeve onto the handle until it rests just below the base plate. Dry off the sleeved razor with a towel, and you're set.

You’ll know you’ve got it right when it looks like the pic above.

To uninstall, repeat by squirting a little water and soap on the handle of your razor and slide off the bottom. Rinse and dry out.

Depends on your shaving cream. If you're using a concentrated soap like our Ultra Lather Shaving Cream, you will need a brush to create a foamy lather. Not only that, a shaving brush further helps prep your shave by softening and lifting up hairs.

Our Skincare products should also last you anywhere from 2-4 months depending on use frequency and individual preference.

Both will last you for about three months.

None of our products are tested on animals.

A couple of notes about our products: Our shave brush is made out of synthetic materials instead of popular shave brushes made out of badger hair. Our Travel Case and Everyday Dopp are made out of full-grain leather, sourced from ethically raised cattle in North America.

We recommend using Chamberlain's Leather Milk. It's a natural leather cleaner, conditioner, and water repellant. We recommend it on our leather goods, but please check with the manufacturer for their recommendations on other leathers. Also go here to see Chamberlains recommendations.

We recommend treating your leather every 6 months to a year for conditioning, maybe a little more often if you live in a harsher weather environment and expose your leather to these conditions. Make sure you let your leather totally dry out before reapplying.

It is possible that it may darken your leather, so make sure to always test on a small, inconspicuous spot. This product is not one that would work well if you're looking to dramatically darken your piece. Always test in a small area first to see if you like the result. Apply in thin, even layers allowing each application to completely dry. The color may rub off a bit when you're applying conditioner. Once the leather dries you shouldn't have a problem.

Elbow grease is the best for scratches in leather. Rubbing the heck out of it with a rag and conditioner or oil should do it. Personally, we like scratches and feel they tell great stories. One of the benefits of leather is the way they wear and continue to look better with age.

When you first decide to start shaving with a single blade, it can be incredibly intimidating. Where do I start?

One of the best places to start is by mapping the growth of your beard. Think of it like a road map that traces the direction of all of your facial hair.

Before we get into the how, let's explain the why. In the shaving community, there are three terms that are used often in conjunction with an excellent shave: shaving with the grain, shaving against the grain and shaving across the grain.

With The Grain (WTG)

Shaving with the grain is moving the razor in the same direction as the natural growth of your beard. The advantage of shaving with the grain is the minimal chance of razor burn or skin irritation. Sometimes shaving with the grain doesn't give you those extremely close and refreshing shaves you envision. This is where shaving against the grain comes into play for most.

Against The Grain (ATG)

When shaving against the grain, you must use caution and not over do it. Shaving against the grain pulls the hair up and away from the skin, which runs an increased chance of razor burn being left in its path. For this reason, we recommend our customers to avoid shaving against the grain, if possible.

Across The Grain (XTG)

Instead, we recommend shaving across the grain -- this is the practice shaving perpendicular to your beard growth. This means taking horizontal strokes instead of vertical, for most. This shaving method will get you a closer shave than going with the grain, but won't be as harsh on your skin as shaving against the grain.

Now that we know the why, let's talk about the how. It's best to have at least 2-3 days of beard growth in place before you start mapping out your grain. Too short? The direction of growth will be hard to find, and you'll likely make some wrong assumptions. Too long? A natural curl of a beard may conceal the true direction of your growth.

Once you have the correct beard length, look in your mirror at different areas of your beard: specifically your neck, chin, left cheek, right cheek, and under your nose. Notice which direction the hairs grow in each of these areas. To confirm, grab a business card, credit card, or even the back of a comb and pass it lightly over each section of hair. Hair growing with the grain will feel as if you are just combing it down back into place. Hair growth that is against the grain will feel like you are pulling your hair follicles upright.

With a better understanding of your beard growth, it's time to get a close, comfortable shave. Once you're all lathered up, remember the grain direction for each region of your face and shave with the grain. If you need another pass, re-lather and go with the grain again - pivoting and changing the direction you're shaving to follow your unique beard map for each region. If after two passes with the grain, you haven't achieved the closeness you desire, you may want to bump up your shave setting.

Multi-blade razors force you to hack over the same spot multiple times to get every last hair before moving onto the next section of your face.

We have news for you, it's absolutely awful for your skin. Right off the bat, you want to avoid the blade scraping against your bare face as much as possible. You don't realize how much you're pressing the blade into your skin with "rapid-fire strokes".

This absolutely WILL NOT fly with the Single Edge SE and Single Edge Pro. You will almost certainly irritate your skin, and possibly cut yourself up. Instead, we recommend taking two passes with the Single Edge.

Your First Pass

Take your first pass with the grain. Use light, short strokes with the razor. Once you've shaved your entire face, examine your beard for any missed spots or stubble.

Stay Lathered

If a second pass is needed, take time to reapply lather to your face before shaving with the Single Edge. To save time, avoid washing your shaving brush after your original lather. Usually, a good lather made with quality ingredients will build enough foam to last two passes. Bottom line, always make sure you're lathered up.

Your Second Pass

Take your second pass across the grain. This is exactly what it sounds like. Guide your razor perpendicular to the direction of your beard growth. This technique is great for getting a super-close shave from your Single Edge.

Remember, you don't need to press the razor into your skin and take a never-ending amount of strokes to get a close Single Edge shave.

First, pass with the grain.

Second pass across the grain.

Let's do this.

Step #1: Start with warm water.

Grab a shave bowl or mug and fill it with hot water. Let it sit for a couple of minutes to heat the container and then, dump out water. This will help keep your lather warm throughout your shave.

Step #2: Grab your gear.

Take a finger scoop of your shaving cream and rub it into the bottom of your bowl or container. Run your shaving brush under warm water and begin to whip up a lather. It may take a little muscle, so don't be shy. Whip it good!

Step #3: Adjust lather consistency.

Small additions can change the overall texture of your lather. Want a thicker lather? Add a small amount of shave cream. Cream not whipping? Add a little more water and use vigorous, circular motions to activate cream.

Don't forget to get the thick lather stuck inside the brush. Starting at the base of the bristle knot, squeeze upward to retrieve a nice amount of lather to add to skin.

Step #4: Take your time.

Shaving often feels like a chore - but it doesn't have to. Think of it like a massage: the warm water, the scents, exfoliation, and smooth glide of the razor can be pretty relaxing.

Apply lather for your first pass and enjoy it. If you need a second pass, we recommend relathering areas before taking a second run.

While most of our advertisements only show face shaving, the truth is that a single-blade razor like the Single Edge is extremely effective at shaving legs. Not only will it drastically reduce any issues of razor burn, irritation, or ingrown hairs, but it is also extremely intuitive to use and find the proper blade angle.

Lather Up

The Single Edge will shave extremely close to the surface of your skin. Since your legs have a very thin layer of skin between your razor and bone structures, it's very important to lather up thick.

We're not talking oil, water, or even your hair conditioner. Grab a quality shaving cream, filled with skin-nourishing ingredients, and whip up a thick lather for your legs. Added bonus, if you apply your shaving cream with a shave brush, you'll exfoliate and prep hairs at the same time. Hello, multi-tasking.

Find The Angle

Shaving with a Single Edge will feel incredibly intuitive if you've shaved your legs before. That being said, if you don't have the correct blade angle on your skin, your razor will either cut zero hair or give you unwanted nicks.

To find the proper angle, place the head of the razor (a fancy way of saying the part where the blade is) flat against your leg. Then, rotate backward or towards you 5-10 degrees. You may need to experiment to find the proper angle. But good news - once you do, the muscle memory will set in and smooth sailing.

Short, Light Strokes

Here's where you may have to adjust your technique. Once you properly lathered and have found the right blade angle, you'll want to take short, light strokes to shave. The keywords to focus on here are NO PRESSURE.

If multi-blade razors have taught us anything, especially in leg shaving, it's been the bad habit of pressing down during a shave to achieve a closer shave. This is not the answer and will only lead to pain and terrible effects on your skin.

The technique will feel like you are sweeping away the hair with the Single Edge. Think about shaving a balloon and how much pressure you would apply. Then, use that same amount of pressure during your shave. If you need a closer shave, then bump up to a more aggressive shave setting.

Moisturize

No more ashy skin. There's nothing worse than ruining a close shave with dried-out skin. There are a few ways to take care of your skin after a shave, but the main point is that you do take care of it.

Post-shave products aren't just for beards. Your legs can benefit from the same ingredients and perks they offer. Take about a finger scoop of shaving cream and run it under some warm water. Next, smear the cream into the bottom of the bowl, breaking down it's texture and softening it Then, grab your brush, run it under some warm water and give it a shake for the excess water to drip out. Finally, using circular motions, use the brush to whip up a rich lather and apply to the areas that will be shaved.

Use circular motions on your face, as well. Be generous with time, if possible because the longer you use the brush, aim for a minute or two, the softer your hairs will get, the more dead skin you'll exfoliate, the more your skin will be prepared for a shave.

And if you're really looking for a hot and relaxing barber-type shave, fill your bowl with hot water for a few minutes to heat up the bowl. Dump it out, and start creating your lather -- you'll feel the difference.
