What is Squalane?

Have you seen our Ingredients page? It's got the whole list of everything we put in our shaving cream, post shave and skincare. It's all plant-based and designed to help your skin look its best without chemicals or microplastics.
The unsung hero on that page is Squalane. It's one of the most powerful ingredients in our Multi-Purpose Moisturizer. If you read over it thinking it was just another chemical we're using as filler in our products, think again.
It’s one of the most abundant active ingredients in our moisturizer, because of the powerful, age-defying effects it has on your skinIt’s almost bioidentical to your skin’s natural oil making it a near perfect moisturizing ingredient. It’s also an antioxidant and protects your skin from cancer causing substances.

Why is Squalane good for your skin?

It’s one tiny molecular step away from Squalene, the oil your body naturally produces. This means your body readily accepts it and allows it to have its full effect.

Our skin is our body’s first line of defense. It protects us from toxins and other harmful chemicals.
Chemical-based or synthetic skincare products are engineered in a lab to bypass the skin barrier so they can have their advertised effectWhat they don’t tell you is how this increases your body’s toxic load (read more about that here.)
However, because Squalane is Squalene’s molecular fraternal twin, the skin opens up to receive all it has to offer, which is quite a lot.

Squalane is an Antioxidant

It protects your skin from free radicals. These aren’t just something your doctor says to scare you at your yearly physical. Free radicals are unstable atoms that cause illness and early aging.
Using Squalane on your skin kills them before they have a chance to enter your bloodstream and do long-term damage. You won’t just look healthier, you’ll actually be healthier when you use it.

Squalane is an Emollient

Emollients soften your skin, making it smoother and younger-looking. They also help with your skin’s elasticity. In other words, it will help your skin snap back into place after years of sun damage, exposure to weather and everything else working to age your face.
Have you ever seen an old rubber band after it’s been stretched out? Did you notice how long it took for it to get back to its original shape? That’s your skin without Squalane.

Squalane won’t cause Breakouts

If you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, then Squalane is the ideal moisturizer for you.
Other oils are too heavy and greasy. They sit on top of the skin and gather dirt and other impurities. They clog your pores and don’t add any moisture to your skin.
Squalane is light and non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores when you use it.

What’s the difference between Squalane and Squalene?

We keep saying they’re bioidentical, but what’s the actual difference?
Squalene is a natural lipid your body produces. However, it makes less and less of it as you age, with a significant drop off after you turn 30. As a result, your skin gets dry, rough and starts to wrinkle. Babies produce the most Squalene, which is why they have such amazing skin.
That’s why every Supply shaver is after a BBS (Baby Butt Smooth) Shave. Babies have great skin and Squalene is the reason. But your body isn’t making all that fountain of youth serum on its own anymore. That’s why you need Squalane.
It’s the natural, but slightly engineered twin to Squalene. It first came from harvesting the Squalene from Shark livers. Don’t worry, that’s not where we get ours. We wouldn’t say “Plant-Based” if it weren’t true. Squalene is also found in olives, rice and sugar cane.
But it’s too unstable to last, so it has to be hydrogenated. After it’s hydrogenated, it turns into Squalane and is ready to use in high quality skincare products like our Multi-Purpose Moisturizer.

Why should you use Squalane in your skincare routine?

For all the reasons we listed above.
  • It will make your skin look younger and healthier.
  • It will protect you from early aging and illness.
  • It will add some elasticity back to your skin, so you don’t look tired and overworked (even though you might be).
  • It works better than other moisturizers because it’s almost identical to the oil your body naturally produces.
  • It will help you have a smooth shave every time because your skin will be smoother and full of moisture. This makes it even easier for the blade to glide right across it when you shave.
  • And it’s easy to start using when you add Multi-Purpose Moisturizer to your routine.

We could keep going, but by now you know more about Squalane and your skin than some doctors. Do your skin a favor and start using this almost miracle ingredient on your skin.
