Prepping Your Skin for Summer

The longest days of the year are here, and the scorching sun has already made it's presence known this summer. As temps keep rising, it's important to know that the summer climate affects your skin in more ways than sweat.

Plus - if you’re stuck in a sticky situation like myself, abandoned by a working A/C, the heat, especially in Texas, is unbearable. What most of us overlook is what heat means for our skin - and how to take the necessary precautions to protect it.

Acne, dry skin, eczema and other skin blemishes are more than just facial inconveniences. They are signs that your skin is in desperate need of attention. It's time to listen. Here's what's happening.

Tips for Humid Environments

The amount of moisture in humid air opens pores, making skin more susceptible to dirt and oil, which causes breakouts, irritation and eczema. The extra sweat from heat does clear out your pores, but if you don’t wash away toxins, they'll end up just sitting there. This is why it’s essential to use a moisturizing face wash and even exfoliate to keep your skin healthy.

Tips for Dry Environments

If you’re living in dry, desert-like areas, you’re skin is taking a toll. There’s nothing worse for your skin’s health than heat when it’s already dried out. Moisturizer is your best friend in combination with your favorite sunscreen. Besides looking like you've spent one too many turns in the tanning bed, it's also very important to protect your skin from the dangerous UV rays.

Aloe vera naturally protects skin and adds moisture through it's antibacterial and hydration properties. If you don't have a hydrating post shave option, our Healing Post Shave is aloe vera based instead of alcohol, restoring moisture to worn skin.

General Summer Skincare Tips

If exfoliation isn't a normal part of your shave routine, it's time you added it. Using a high quality shave brush during your shave exfoliates your skin while prepping your skin. The circular motions easily sweep off unwanted dead skin cells, giving your skin life. Our Silvertip Synthetic Shave Brush is designed with soft, thick bristles and guaranteed for life.

And this may be obvious - but drinking plenty of water to keep your body hydrated is very important. The general recommendation is to consume a gallon of water a day at minimum.

Bottom line: Wash. Exfoliate. Moisturize. Drink.
