Do I need a shaving bowl?
If you're using a brush and a real shaving cream, yes. The bowl is where the lather builds. You can do it in a coffee mug or your palm, but a bowl holds heat longer, gives the brush more surface to work against, and stays put on the counter while you do it.

Why marble?
Thermal conductivity. Marble holds heat about three times longer than ceramic. Run hot water through the bowl for a minute before you start lathering, and the warmth carries through the shave. Ceramic and wood bowls cool faster.

How heavy is it?
18 ounces. Heavy enough to stay put while you whip lather. It won't skate across the counter.

Why the ridges inside?
They aerate the lather as the brush moves. The brush whips air into the cream, the ridges add turbulence, and the lather builds denser and warmer in less time. A smooth-bottomed bowl works, but takes longer.

How do I clean it?
Rinse after each use. Air-dry. Marble is porous, so don't let lather sit in it overnight as it can stain over time. No dishwasher.

Run hot water through the bowl for about a minute. Let the marble absorb the heat.
Empty the water. Add a fingertip of Ultra Lather.
Wet the brush, shake off the excess, work in tight circles inside the bowl until the lather builds .
Add a drop more water if it's too thick. A touch more cream if too thin.
Apply to the face with the brush.

More than just a simple bowl

This bowl is excellent for use with the Supply cream shaves. It has grooves in the bottom that help create great lather with a traditional shaving brush. I put the bowl under running hot water when washing my face before I shave which warms the bowl and makes the lather warm. I’m really pleased. I bought it on a whim after seeing it at Supply and wasn’t sure about its necessity. I’m glad I took the risk—it’s great and worth it.

Supply Marble Shaving Bowl - Fabulous!

I skipped ordering the Supply Marble Shaving Bowl initially because I had never used a shaving brush and cream before. Lathering up is much better with the aid of the Supply Marble Shaving Bowl! It is weighty, well sized for the work, and the interior is a bit ruff, which seems to enhance the lathering process. I definitely recommend adding one if you do not have one, or ordering one initially with the shaving brush and cream!
